Spiritual direction is the process of accompanying people on their spiritual journey. Its helps people to tell their sacred stories of every day. Spiritual direction exists in a context that emphasizes: growing closer to God, it invites a deeper relationship with the spiritual aspect of being human and it offers a place to explore prayer practices, meditation, and spiritual experiences. The role of spiritual director is to be a welcoming presence as directees listen to God with the “ear of their hearts” and become aware of how God is being revealed in the mystery of their lives. In any meeting for spiritual direction the true director is always the Holy Spirit.
My training as a spiritual director was with the “Formation in Direction” school of the Diocese of Texas. I was commissioned by the bishop in June of 2014 after completion of the three-year program.
